These “thermal de-icers” are designed to keep snow and ice slabs from forming on the roofs of these transportation vehicles. Plans continue on the residential side but HMP has been refocused to address the more serious issue affecting our transportation industry.

Q. How would transportation companies benefit from HMP’s “Thermal De-icers”?
A. There are a number of benefits which include:
Higher customer satisfaction - Don't lose a customer due to delays from snow and ice. Pennsylvania currently has a bill (HB121) in their state senate which will require snow and ice slabs be removed from the rooftops of commercial trucks and trailers before traveling their roadways. Other states are expected to follow Pennsylvania’s lead as legislative efforts are made to eliminate this dangerous and hazardous problem on our nation’s roadways.
Reduced lawsuits and fines- Companies face fines, as do their drivers, if snow or ice slabs fall from a truck or trailer and causes personal and/or property damage.
Increased productivity - Workers and drivers can spend more time doing their assigned job and not be involved in the manual labor of removing snow and ice from the tops of trailers and other commercial vehicles.
Q. Why shouldn’t companies just remove the snow and ice manually before tractors and trailers begin their haul?
A. It is extremely risky to have workers and drivers clear snow and ice from a typical 13 foot high trailer. In addition to the physical injuries that could occur from a potential fall, workman’s compensation expenses would be incurred. Situations like this would result in delayed deliveries/pickups and the hiring of additional employees to replace the injured worker. Another consideration is that snow and ice can form during and after tractors and trailers reach their destination. Having driver’s clear snow and ice from their rooftops before, during and after the haul would not only be dangerous but more costly.
Q. What financial risks do companies face if snow and ice slabs are not removed from the roofs of commercial vehicles and trailers?
A. Much will depend on the laws each state enacts, but it is expected that the same procedure used at weigh stations would be employed requiring that the situation be corrected before the trip could continue, thus causing delays and negatively impacting customer satisfaction. It is also expected that companies would have to pay fines and, for repeated cases, companies may not be able to operate on that state’s roadways. Another potential risk factor is personal liability claims resulting from snow and ice slabs causing an accident, injury or a fatality. Financial liability in those cases would be up to judges and juries.
Q. Are their other noticeable savings to transportation companies?
A. Yes, the added weight of snow uses additional fuel that is not passed onto customers. Just six inches of wet snow on a 45-foot trailer is an additional 2,400 pounds. By eliminating this extra weight, HMP helps to lower fuel consumption and reduce the cost of operation.
Q. Do HMP products provide any competitive advantages?
A. Yes, incorporating HMP de-icers on your vehicles and trailers would be excellent public relations “Safety First” campaign for your customers and potential employees alike. Further, it would ensure your companies continued access to the nation’s roadways.
Q. Do you market your products through resellers or distributors?
A. Yes, Heat Matt Products is a distributor of the products we carry and sell directly to trailer manufactures, resellers and wholesalers.
